Due to the high cost of natural pearls and them being a much desired item, the pearls were created artificially so as to reach a much wider market. The origin of the Mallorcan pearls came by a German that had emigrated to France and worked in Paris in the production of artificial pearls. His name was Eduard Hugo Heusch. He came to Mallorca and decided to start his own factory which he called Majorica and is known now worldwide for the high quality of his pearls.
