It’s capital is Palma de Mallorca and the main source of income is tourism. It forms part of a group of islands called the Balearics which are Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. The Balearics are independent autonomies that depend on the Spanish state. Whithout a doubt this corner of the Mediterranean can be considered th European Carribean. Being so close to so many countries it is no doubt one of the most important touristic destinations for sun and beaches in Europe. Approximately one million people inhabit the island of which 16% are foreign residents, British, Italian, French and German being a majority.
